We sat down with Chair and Vice Chair’s Kim Kimber and David Ramcharran to talk about what makes the Foundation Oxford Summer School so worthwhile for them? What excites them about the year ahead? And what keeps the school so relevant for today's' new leader
Q: Taking on the roles of Chair and Vice Chair is a big responsibility on top of your day-to-day commitments, what makes it worthwhile?
K: David my Vice and Rob Husband the Programme Director have spent the best part of the last year preparing for the next school. The programme, launched in 2012, is ideal for managers who are looking to develop their teamwork and leadership skills. Watching how delegates develop their skills and professional network in a short space of time makes it worthwhile. Knowing that we have helped them be better managers when they return to their businesses makes me very proud. The programme evolves every year to ensure it is relevant to today’s leaders and with the experienced team of Group Directors and fantastic speakers who share their experience with the delegates .
D: It is wonderful to see delegates embrace the intensive work programme, it is designed to challenge there though process and the way they work in their workplace. Seeing them grow and change the way they operate within a week is so rewarding. What's also good is to see the Return on Investment with social media it so easy to keep in touch after the school to see how past delegates are using what they have learnt back in their business and many go on to develop their careers within their business too!
Q: And what keeps the school so relevant for todays' new leaders?
K:Feedback from the week from everyone who attends the school to the ever changing retail market place makes us fully review the content after each school- we are never complacent and recognise that retailers want to invest and develop their team but also want value for money and a big return on their investment!
D: I totally agree, businesses want to see a return on their investment so it's important that they can see how this is demonstrated when delegates are back in the work place, leading and developing their own teams. This school gives them the vital skills required to ensure their team delivers to the organisation's standard, targets and expectations. Helping them to lead, influence and engage their teams to improve business results.
What are you looking most looking forward to this year?
K: Meeting this year's delegates and seeing them embrace the challenging work programme with vigor and excitement. I love the passion and commitment that they put into the work programme and the confidence they gain throughout the week. Also St Catz is such a great location to host the school; it's so conducive to learning. I can't wait to be back there!
D: I am also really excited to be working with our talent bunch of Group Directors who facilitate and coach the delegates through the week. We have also got such a wide range of industry leaders who will be holding lectures and tutorials in the week to support the work programme.
